Since I've been a little kid, I've always been taught by my parents to bring a plate to gatherings. What was on that plate was totally negotiable, anything from sandwiches to scones was perfectly acceptable. (Yes, I did go out of my way to think of a sweet thing which started with S...)
When I hit my senior year of school, I had my go-to brownies. Every party / gathering, I would always make my brownies, and if not, I would be asked where they were (even if I did bring something else I baked). There is only one problem with these brownies that I have - they ain't pretty.
...and they don't make too many. Out of this mix, I cut it into 16 pieces. Now either my math is wrong, I can't count, or a magic brownie-stealing fairy stole 6 brownies. Hehe. Only reason I noticed was that I placed 10 brownies into the containers... But moving on.
I should probably mention, there is a reason why I stopped baking them for years. Damn, I hate washing up melted chocolate. Hehe. Now I've made them again, they're totally worth it.
Here's the recipe!
Where it's from: Super Food Ideas, March 2003
Makes approx. 24 (that's what the original said...)
·
250g dark chocolate
·
125g butter
·
1 cup brown sugar
·
3 eggs
·
1 cup plain flour, sifted
·
¼ cup cocoa
·
½ cup white choc bits
·
½ cup dark choc bits
·
½ cup milk choc bits
1.
Melt dark chocolate and butter in a saucepan
over gentle heat. Cool slightly.
2.
Beat sugar and eggs together until thick and
fluffy. Add chocolate mixture. Fold in combined flour and cocoa. Stir in choc bits.
3.
Spread into a greased and baking paper-lined
20cm square cake tin. Bake in a
moderately slow oven (160°C) for 40 – 45 minutes. Cut into squares to serve
Variations: If
preferred, use 1 ½ cups of just one type of choc bits – either milk, white or
dark.
Note: Brownies
often have a soft centre, but they firm on cooling.
Also, this tastes *so good* with icecream!!
Until next time,
