Turning a drawstring into a pencil (skirt)

Welcome to another Red Velvet DIY Dressup post!  Believe it or not, I'm still sewing my way through it.  Granted, not in the standard 1-2-3 fashion, I'm picking and choosing projects depending on what I have on hand...  Yeah.  I'm out of fabric storage space so I'm sewing through what I've got before I allow myself to buy more...  Moving on.

There's a drawstring skirt project in there, which I thought would be ideal for the copious amounts of green fabric which I have lying around (initially intended for a maxi skirt, but then I realised it wouldn't really work with this fabric...).  It's a really comfy cotton, thick enough so I can wear it in the colder weather!  So I stitched up this skirt (surprisingly easy), and was rather intrigued by the results.




I loved how it fitted from my hips down - it made my butt look great much to my surprise.  I couldn't stand how it looked on the waist - it looks (and felt) really awkward, especially around the back.  Not to mention it was a pain to tie (probably just wrong fabric choice for the bow...), but here we move on to my brilliant idea - turn it into a pencil skirt.  (PS: apologies for the epic blur, my room wasn't exactly tidy when I took the photos, hehe)

Turns out, it was super easy to make.  I don't have pics of my process, but I'm hoping a non-scale Paint drawing will suffice, hehe.



Hopefully that makes sense?  Either way, with a zip thrown in, I have a super gorgeous pencil skirt which actually fits.  To explain that, I have never actually found a pencil skirt which fits - either it fits at the hips and there's a tonne of extra fabric at the waist, or it fits at my waist and I can't get it over my hips.  So here it is - my awesome pencil skirt!





Which I'm super excited about wearing to work sometime soon!!  Especially making a cute little bow to hide the button holes at the front.  Photographer - my little brother.
