Today's my birthday! So of course I had to make myself a kickass birthday cake ;) What? I like being able to choose my own birthday cake, and making it is half the fun! It's also a great excuse to try and bake cakes which seem more event-y rather than everyday delicious. That's just what I think. So when I saw this cake while looking for my boyfriend's little sister's birthday cake, I knew I had a winner.
I mean, chocolate and coffee in a cake? With chocolate coated coffee beans which I've been meaning to try for ages but could never find them? Awesome. Granted, I've tried them now and they're not overly fabulous, but none the less, they make my cake look pretty...
PS: the cake actually isn't this yellow! Apparently the lighting in my dining room isn't very good for photography... =P
On a sort-of-related-but-not-really note, we (my parents, boyfriend and cousin) had a slice of cake at around 4:30 this afternoon. Now, at 10pm there is less than one quarter of the cake left. That could be put down to how utterly delicious this cake is. More specifically, the icing. The icing is amazing.
The marbling turned out quite well for my first marble cake attempt, though I am looking forward to trying it again sometime soon, marble cakes are awesome!
