It's absolutely no secret that I love Nutella, so when it was requested that I make these cheesecakes again for my boss's birthday last week... Of course I did. It's Nutella and cheesecake. I did take the opportunity to modify the recipe a little bit, by accident that is- I (being a brilliant human being) bought pure cream instead of thickened, which means I made a mousse rather than a cheesecake! It was still delicious regardless and it means I get to present you with two recipes rather than the one. Yes, what you have to do is identical (except for cooling time) for both recipes.
Nutella Mousse
Modified from a recipe on HighWalls Blog
- 1 packet of Oreos
- 2 heaped tablespoons of butter, melted
- 250g cream cheese
- 3/4 cup Nutella
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 250mL pure* cream
- various decorating deliciousness
Nutella Cheesecake
- 1 packet of Oreos
- 2 heaped tablespoons of butter, melted
- 250g cream cheese
- 3/4 cup Nutella
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 250mL thickened* cream
- various decorating deliciousness
- Place Oreos into two bags and using a rolling pin ...pulverise them into crumbs. In a bowl mix the melted butter and Oreos until well combined.
- (Depending on the size of your cheesecake dispensing devices) In each of your cheesecake dispensing devices (I used martini glasses) place a heaped tablespoon of Oreo-butter mixture. Compress slightly with your fingers / spoon and place to the side.
- In another bowl, mix the cream cheese and Nutella with a spatula until reasonably combined, then beat using an electric mixer until well combined. Add cream and mix until well combined.
- Spoon (cheesecake) or use a piping bag (mousse) to evenly distribute mixture between cheesecake dispensing devices.
- Refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours (mousse) and 4 hours (cheesecake). Overnight is ideal.
- After an hour, add your various decorating deliciousness to the top.

Mine were covered in lightly crushed Malteasers, with 100's and 1,000's in the stem of the martini glass (it was hollow, and trying to fill it with Oreo mix was... not going to look pretty)
*pure cream is "normal" cream, and doesn't contain any thickeners. From my understanding (and research), "thickened" cream in Australia is equivalent to whipping or double cream.
Aaaaand they were delicious. Though just as a heads up, leaving the mousse version out for an hour caused them to ...melt a little bit...

Catch you next time!
