When I started my new job, I realised I had a problem - I'd lost (or thrown out) my lunch bag. So I went to the internet. The internet is great, but all of the tote bag tutorials I found gave me specific dimensions to use, which weren't what I was after. As a result, I did what any normal sewing person would do. I drafted a pattern. Here's how you can do that too!
I've also got a free printable for you in case you want to download the instructions at home!
1) Write your ideal final measurements on the "height", "base" and "width" lines.
2) Write those measurements + seam allowance near their corresponding colour, except for the base.
3) Divide the base by 2, and write that number + seam allowance next to the base colour.
4) Draw your pattern onto paper!
5) Cut out fabric
6) Sew together - fold in half, sew blue sides together and pinch the bottom corner to the top corner of the green lines.
Optional: 7) repeat steps to create a lining.
Now, you can use different linings to make it a legit lunch box, but I haven't experimented with those yet! I used KAM snaps to close them, because I have
way too many.

To make the scallops, all I did was trace a lid onto my fabric, and stitch it on with a close zigzag stitch.
